In November he started a new bookbinding project in Lettra. After several years of having short bookbinding programs and courses, we decided to change the format a bit in order to reach more people.

The idea remains as is, we see a specific project or technique month by month, the classes are live and last less than 2 hours.

And what have we done so far?

We started with a structure called dos-a-dos, which in French means back to back. In this structure you can join two books in a single unit, it works quite well for guest books or artist books. Here you can see the work of some of our students.

December

Since December is always a difficult month, the class was held at the beginning of the month, before my trip to Peru. On this occasion we learned how to make the Coptic two-needle binding. This type of stitching allows you to stitch multiple booklets and gives you the option of playing with different colors of thread. The advantage of exposed seams is that the books can be opened up to 180 degrees.

Getting back into rhythm was a bit difficult after a long break. So we started with a technique that the students were interested in learning from the beginning of the membership: Stubs! I had never taught this binding technique as it is very specific. I thought it was not of much interest, but to my surprise it was very well accepted. I was practicing it here in Montreal with Catherine Gaumerd (Canadian bookbinder).

What's yet to come!

In February we will be making this album with a folded structure. I am super excited because it is a bookbinding that does not take a lot of time, however it is not that popular.

How does our membership work?

The idea is that you can have a little of bookbinding in your everyday life. That you keep moving forward despite not having much time available. As we changed the format of the classes to been live instead of recorded, the price also changed. You can access the membership for USD$15 per month. If you can't connect the same day of the classes, don't worry, we'll record them. NOTE: If you decide to leave the membership, you will lose access to the recordings.
